  1. Hi

I'm wondering if anyone out there may be able to offer some
ideas as to what could be wrong with me, or to see if anyone
    has had a similar experience.

Nearly three years ago I was using a PC at work and felt a
strange sensation in the back-right of my head. My vision
was temporarily interrupted and I felt as though I was going
to faint, sounds were also muffled. I sat with my head down
for a couple of minutes while I recovered and when I got up
I felt very shakey and unstable and had to leave. I was then
off work for a week with the below symptoms, it took me a
    week or so to adjust.

Since then I have felt as though I have been living in a
daze, a kind of dream-world. It's a very strange sensation
that I struggle to explain to people, however it is
severely limiting my life. Whenever walking around, ouside
or indoors, I feel like I'm in a strange state, it feels
as though I am not really here and I find it difficult to
look where I am going as though movement is confusing my
brain. When at work and sat at my desk I feel more and
more irritable during the day and I find that towards the
end of the day I am struggling to pronounce words
correctly and have problems thinking straight, it's as if
    I am extremely tired.

Another big problem is that I also find driving
uncomfortable and cannot drive for more than 10-15 mins
before my vision is irritated and I feel the strange 'not
really here' feelings. This leads me to feel panicky and I
have to pull over for a break. The faster I drive the worse
I feel. I have no fear of speed nor am I afraid of driving.
I used to ride a push-bike but now feel unsafe as I struggle
to look at the road ahead without feeling panicky and
irritated, again I get this 'not really here' feeling.

I have been to my doctor at least 10 times. He is convinced
that this being caused by anxiety / depression, however I
feel neither anxious nor depressed. He did prescribe Seroxat
for 12 months, but this had no effect. I have had blood
tests, a thyroid test, blood pressure tests and eye tests
but nothing has been revealed. I have not, however, had a
brain scan. I suggested this to my doctor but he dismissed
the idea. I have seen three neurologists, all were convinced
that the problem was blood-pressure / heart rate related but
    tests have shown no problems.

Does anyone have any idea as to what this might be? My
thoughts run to, maybe, some sort of mini stroke having
occured, but this is purely a guess as no-one has yet come
    up with a satisfatory explanation.

Thanks for any ideas or shared experiences.

    Jon

    Sorry, forgot to add that I'm a 27 year-old male non-smoker
    and a light drinker.

  3. Sounds like you might be going through a 'mental break-down'
caused by some severe stressfull situation or traumatic
experience. The brain is in 'self repair' mode - blocking
out any stressfull situation no matter how small it may be.
This condition may last for a while (years even - sorry!)

  4. Re: Strange "Spaced Out" Feelings

Can be muscles in your neck shortening and irritating
nerves. Head rotation during driving can irritate nerves in
neck. Sitting at a computer without moving your head can
shorten muscles. You probably clench your teeth, too, which
can irritate every nerve in your body.

Look at this page for suggestions on posturing for less
    pain. icdc.compainpreventionbypostur
    ing803.htm

Have you ever had a whiplash accident?

If you poke around the back of your neck, do you feel pain?
Tight muscles? If so, get someone to lightly massage your
    neck and back.

Look at things in your life that can change your body
    chemistry....

Know someone who was almost put in a psychiatric
hospital because she was taking an antibiotic and it
    affected her mind.

Do you take medication? Some meds can cause heart palps
which bring on an anxiety attack because your nerves tell
your brain that blood isn't flowing correctly. Caffeine can
    do it, too.

For 15 days, keep a record of everything you eat and drink.

Stay away from all forms of sugar AND replacement sugar for
5 days and see if there is a difference. Low blood sugar can
    cause many neuro symptoms.

After that, have NO dairy products for 5 days.

If there is no difference, NO wheat (including noodles,
pasta, bread, gravy, etc.) for 5 days.

If there is no difference after 15 days, ask again for a
    scan.

None of your doctors have x-ray vision and it's good for
your peace of mind to rule out a bleed, stroke or tumor.
(I'm sure you've entertained the thoughts of every one of
them. If you weren't nervous before, your symptoms could
cause much anxiety .) Good luck. LK

    too,

Thanks for the reply, you have offered some good ideas to
    help me get started.

    Thanks

Nope, I doubt it. Sudden onset, etc. Wish I had some
suggestions. Wish all those brain scans etc. could be done
    quickly and very cheaply.

    <snip details of persistence>

    Again, my sympathies.
