was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea:

lots of stop signs. Generally I just slow right down and have a good
look before proceeding or stopping but I noticed that the boys were just
going straight through, sometimes without a glance in either direction.
So I proposed a game where we tried to stop as close as possible to the
line. It seemed to work and they enjoyed stopping.
This might be a good technique for training young riders to obey stop
signs.
But did they still not look?
Those damn bollards and in particular, the zig-zaggy things you go
through to get over train lines, end up making me concentrate on
negotiating the damn things. Sometimes I have caught myself not even
looking for the presence of trains because I am so busy not falling
over.
And I think bollards are just a stupid idea, full stop -- especially
on non-busy road crossings -- you are gauranteed to hit the zig zaggy
things if you are going along at night and don't know about their
presence, with disasterous consequences. But if there isn't one
there, then you have a damn good chance of not coming to grief at all.
