Excuse my top posting but .....

I think anything the RTA do for cycling is political propaganda. The
biggest one is sponsoring the Bike NSW bike ride. In itself the event is
a wonderful thing and has got a lot of people onto bikes. At the same
time by sponsoring it it lets the RTA off the hook for doing any thing
productive for cyclists.

councles funds for the building of cyclepaths and the
cyclepath/brakedown line along the M* roads is very usefull as well.

Not that I am aware of. That would raise strong ethical questions if

Yes,but unfortunately, they are not very discriminating on what they
fund,
e.g. from my LGA
; basic line marking subsidised as bike lane marking
; bicycle lane on downhill side of bridge is really a pedestrian

This is co-incidental as the major benefit of that "breakdown lane" is
to help preserve the road surface when cars wobble out of the lane. If
it wasn't there, then major pot holes would be along the edge.
