STI shifters on older frames

You may be able to fit downtube stops to a band on lever band. i.e. band on levers usually are
separable from the band leaving a fitting on the band onto which the stops will fit. You could
probably get one of these manufactured in a home workshop from and old set of band on levers.

Is the frame such an unusual design that you cannot use a standard double casing stop, clamped on?

I've used the one Lickton's sells with Campy Centaur stops. I had to file a bit of material off the
body of the stop to get it to work. It wasn't any problem with the Centaur plastic stop, but might
be a bit more work with one of the higher-end metal ones.

They won't take SIS adjuster stops (will they?). You'd be better off with band-on adaptors taken
from old Shimano 105 6-speed down tube levers or similar. This will especially make adjsuting the
indexed front derailleur easier.
