Steering tube size

1 1/8" is the usual size. The headset is the component that is press fit
into the frame.

No, a 1 1/8" steerer tube will not fit into a 1" headset. Well, actually
if you push hard enough it will.

No, a 1 1/8" steerer tube will not fit into a 1" headset. Well,
actually if you push hard enough it will.

Then you just need training wheels, and you've got a drag racer!

I never press fitted a fork yet,just the headset cups
to frame. If a tube is rusted it may need some help,yours didn't. Make
sure you measured right out tube dia. An 04 should be 1 1/8 or bigger.

What is funny is that I as well have an '02 Giant AC2 with a Rock Shox
Psylo, I removed the top cap from the headset and it measured 1" also.
Maybe I am measuring wrong, is there a proper way? I'm just measuring
across the top of the steering tube with a tape measure.

steerer tube?

1/8th of an inch isn't that much. Take your forks off and measure them with
some vernier calipers.

OTOH, tape measures are often crappy at the end (those metal tags etc.), so
try measuring from 1" onwards on the tape. And you're measuring outside
diameter, not internal...

The i-drive head tube *is* 1 1/8"

Thanks...this is the first time I have messed with this part of the
bike. I was measuring wrong. The headset spacers are 1 1/8". It was a
little hard for me to believe that 2 common different brand bikes had
uncommon steering tube diameters. I dug into it a little deeper and saw
how to measure the 1 1/8".
