Steerer Extender BBB

no; I know the spiel is a bit misleading, but that is only an adapter, allowing you to use an a-head stem with a threaded fork and threaded headset. I have one sitting around here somewhere which I used for a while on one of my old steel bikes.

If you want much higher bars you might have to get a new fork with an uncut steerer.

it's also called a threadless stem adapter.

The BBB steerer extender for Ahead systems.

How does this work? Will I have to remove the star nut?

I assume that the nut that holds the top cap in place is connected to the expander bolt. How does this device exert downward pressure on the ahead headset to hold the fork in place?

I would appreciate if someone who has had experience with this device can share their install experience.

I am not sure about that BBB device, but the Delta Ahead threadless stem riser will allow extension of your stem to a higher level without altering your star nut/headset setup. It is not the sleekest looking thing in the world but will work.

It is widely available in the US for around $20 or so.

They are right, its an adaptor.

If you want to extend a 1&1/8 A-head stem use a stem riser. I got two from BiCorp, ZHU2 silver, and ZHU2BK for the black.

George, thanks for the link. Could you elaborate as to how such a device is installed? How is downward pressure exerted on the headset?

The riser replaces the existing stem on the steerer tube, the new cap has a longer bolt, the stem then is fitted to the extension. There are detailed instructions and several pix on the back of the display card.
