It would have to be a De Rossa. Old, rare, and very beautiful to look at.

I think of them in two catergories.
Designer frames like Rivendell , beautiful lugged frames made to order from Japan or Taiwan and custom builders like Della Santa and Richard Sachs who measure you personally before building up your bike.
Another builder of fine steel frames(who will be retiring this year) is Antonio Mondonico who is making his last visit to this country in order to size individual frames. In fact he'll be in the S.F. bay area in sept. This will be a great opportunity for someone wanting a custom built Italian steel frame from one of the masters.I personally have a 1995 Della Santa Corsa Strada(SLX) beautiful green frame running 9 speed dbl. Ultergra and a couple of fine examples of imported japanese
frames from the eighties era. A centurion lemans rs which I converted to single speed running a 39x17 gear which allows me to get around hilly San Farancisco without too much effort and a Miyata 1000 Tourer in original condition and still a great touring bike. -
Waterford makes beautiful lugged steel classics. Also the Serotta CSI model is lugged steel. I own a lugged steel Serotta and in all respects it's a thing of beauty.

I would take a long hard look at a Mondonico. I have one and soon will have two more... The bikes are beautiful...and the ride...oh the sweet sweet ride.

Beautiful and pure Italian ,great paint scheme......I'm tempted to having one built before Antonio Mondonico retires. He'll be sizing up for frames at the Bike Nook in San Farncisco wed. sept 14th.
