  1. hello ZEE and LISTENER

since long time we follow your fight vs STATINS

do you know the equivalent and better one (without this
    side-effects)?

than read or search the web , or ask for more than 250
clinical studies with Red Yeast Rice.

    greetings

    Hello David,

Red yeast extract contains mevinolin which is chemically
identical to the cholesterol-lowering compound lovastatin,
which is sold as the prescription drug Mevacor. As such it
can share similar side effects- mild gastrointestinal upset
and possible changes in liver enzymes, or a muscle condition
called rhabdomyolysis. Zee has already told Matt here that
she would not use red yeast extract.

It has been shown that side effects from statins is
significantly small is relation to the large number of
people using them. I know people taking RYE without problem.
It's an interesting alternative to statins, I suppose.

BTW, I do not consider what's going on here a "fight". Zee
and Sharon Hope have apparently been personally effected by
statin use and becuase of that are on a crusade against them
(although Sharon Hope seems more interested in education post-
side effect treatment, which is certainly important). I'm
*not* on a crusade of any kind. You can take them or not -
    it's your choice.

fermentation product, the finnished fermented product , the
grain, is milled, ready to consume. it is`nt an
    extract,never, its a rice flour,

the compounds are: Monacolin K, like Lovastatin , (nearly
20%) Mevinolinic acid, (nearly 65%) and 5 several
    Monacolins more

the biggest different is, that Monacolin K/Lovastatin (open
lacton-ring) is oil-soluble and will work only in the
liver(after consuming on evening 0-0-1) and Mevinolinic acid
(closed acid-ring) is water-soluble and work in Stomach and
intestine but gentle over the day (2-0-2) and only to 20 %
    in the Liver.

it cannot have similar side-effect because its a different
    product and work gentle

thats right, because in USA the formerly CHOLESTIN only
is/was the fermented product (and never more on the Market),
all other Red Yeast Rice offers are fakes: normal red Rice
food-colour is mixed with Lovastatin from the chemical
    Industry. (Heber et.al)

right , if they used formerly CHOLESTIN In all the 250

equivalent as permitted prescription Drug in China) its
    nothing notifyed significant side-effects.

  4. Appreciated your post...

Is red yeast rice available as a foodstuff at Chinese food
markets ? And is it available in chinese herbal shops ??

What is the chinese name for the product ??

Also : I wonder if it has pharmacological relationship with
Pu-Ehr tea which is a fermented reddish tea with highly
prized digestive system qualities. (Called the "reducing"
    tea in China)

    Thanks liaM

I read in a recent newsletter that that type of red yeast
rice is no longer available in the US. Anybody surprised
the FDA would go after them with a push from the makers
    of statins?

    Bill

  6. You can still buy Red Yeast Rice at vitamin and health food
stores. The only difference between what is sold now and
what FDA acted against is that the label now can no longer
say that it can lower cholesterol.

According to April's Center for Science in the Public
Interest Newsletter, actually caused the active ingredient
    - which was similar to Mevicor - to be changed to
    something else.

  11. yeah, it went down 65 points from the starting point which
was 261 (TC) dropped to 192. hdl, was 90, went down to 85,
my ldl was 154, dropped to
    92. (actually the TC dropped 69 points) after 3 weeks on it
i did an at home test which showed my cholesterol to be
about 190. then a month later went to the docs and had
the labs and it showed the TC and the break down
confirming the 190. i have NO side effects from the RRY
and am taking only 1 a day, i think 2 or 3 are
suggested. costing me like 5.00 a month or less. janet

  12. Hi Janet,

Well.. there's not a Walmart for 3000 miles from where I
live. How the hades can I get some of these wonder pills to
replace the pravastatin I'm now taking and don't do half the
job ? I know. I'll look the red rice yeast up on Froogle !!

    Thanks
