Simvastatin to go OTC in the UK - what does it mean?
An over-the-counter statin will apparently be approved in the UK, targeted
for use by people who have only moderate risk for cardiovascular disease -
that is, individuals for whom statins are not presently recommended in
official guidelines. The OTC product proposed for sale is a 10 mg dose of
simvastatin, which will be called Zocor Heart-Pro.
The UK government appears to be in favor of releasing this drug for OTC use.
A similar proposal in the U.S. was turned down by the FDA a few years ago,
after physician groups strenuously objected. The rationale for releasing OTC
simvastatin is outlined in a public proposal, released by the UK government
    in their solicitation of comments.

  2. Are Statins "liver killers"? Are they not dangerous to take?

I very much doubt it but they are very controversial.

Thanks. Your links strongly lead me to conclude: Statins ARE liver killers.

Wow, what a judgement! I really liked the "strongly" part. But the
emphasis on "ARE" was totally convincing.

You are welcome. Sometimes they may be necessary, but then one has to choose
    between two evils.

yep..surely do...heart attacks can kill far faster than liver probs

ie...like any med...statins need to be monitored carefully..

also...taking a med will NOT replace lifestyle modifications to reduce heart
    disease risk....

so taking a Lipitor with your big Mac does NOT cut it..

    hawki.....

Sure explains why organized medicine attacks Vitamin C and Pauling.

The love of $$$$$$ is the root of all evil.
