Yes. I saw it ages ago. That was the pilot for the series.

Turns out that the studio was co-owned by Lucille Ball of the former Lucy Show. It was a small studio called Desilu Studios. The original captain of the starship enterprise wasn't William Shatner as he came later on. Added to that, after the pilot was shown, the producers wanted to get rid of Mr Spock's character.
Anyway, in this studio, one of the problems they had was pigeons making a noise in the rafters while filming as well as noisy drains. Maybe if you watch the pilots carefully you can hear some of this background interruption.
I wonder if there are any Trek fans on the soapbox?

Shatner was brought on later and Spock was supposed to be a minor character.
He and Shantner vied to upstage each other during the series.
The First captain was Christopher Pike,the character that is, the actors name escapes me without cheating.
Now,which actor played more different character during the series? Hint, she was very close to Roddenberry.

Was it the lady who played Lte Uhuru (spelling) ?
I read somewhere that her and Roddenberry were "involved".

Have to say I loved ST when I was a youngster : superb series.
For me, the original series was the best.
Although I was initially lukewarm to the TNG - I got to like it.

Deep Space Nine and Voyager, I never watched.

Roddenberry's wife played the first officer in the pilot,nurse Chapel in the first series and Roxanna Troi in the next generation.
Good to keep in the family,I guess.

Majel Barrett-Rodenberry also did the voice of the computer in the TNG, DS9, and Voyager series.

i liked the original Star Trek when i was a kid but when Star Wars came out i was a total convert and never looked back...

light sabre's are so much cooler than a phaser....light sabres can decapitate a man or take an arm off plus phasers can go on 'stun mode' which is a bit gay. And Princess Layer (sp) was far sexier than anything in Star Trek...i could be wrong though, havent watched in in 15 years..

While you guys are battling it out me and the princess will be getting it on in the back seat of the Millenium Ford Falcon.

Star trek seems to be all about metal corridors, abandoned alien space crafts, more metal corridors, engine failure, more metal corridors, gadgets, and bridge conversations... more metal corridors.. almost as much metal corridors as ALIENS 1 2 3 4 combined.

Star Wars - Equally as good (if we don't count the 3 new [censored]-fest movies)

...but they just are not the same. It's like comparing Blazing Saddles to Unforgiven; both westerns... but that's where the comparison ends.

Roddenberry was a live wire and had a weakness for women. It was due to him so many of the females were like barbies on board, wearing short skirts and boots e.t.c. Many times he got caught out cavorting in his office. Some of the females were written into the series as Roddenberry had the hots for them.

The original ST always had hot babes in it, and the producers weren't afraid to let them show some skin. Might have been part of the 60's thing too, not just Roddenberry's doing.

No open mouth kissing could be filmed. There was also a problem with Mr Spock's ears due to some fear he would be viewed as satanic in bible-belt states so Rodenberry had to fight to "keep the ears".
I guess the lady I liked most was the one with the bushy blond hair and the short skirts but she was only in a few episodes.
By the way, I didn't know Mr Spock and Gene Rodenberry were Jewish - not that it matters of course. Lieutenant Urura was also based on an African term meaning "freedom". Scotty wasn't Scottish either and William Shatner was Canadian.
