To be honest, it is hard to see past McEwen on a stage like this with Petacchi sadly out of the picture. Bettini, Pollack and co will be fighting for second place I think. Though Bettini will be in a good position to take the overall points jersey at the end he just can't compete with McEwen for stage wins.

it's a shame there isn't a sprinter in the race with the speed of robbie. Pollack seems to be his closest competition and we know that's not serious competition. Pollack can beat Robbie but certainly is not a consistent threat, luck would have to swing his way. No Boonen and pettachi out with a painful sounding injury. I told my wife about ale-jet's knee cap fracture and the fact that he finished the stage anyway. Her cringe was priceless. Too bad 99% of Americans don't grasp how tough cyclists are, it might make the sport better received. They are tougher than football players (American football I mean) and that's who Americans think are the toughest athletes.

hehehe, Brown was on Bettini's wheel and he still finished 15th! He couldn't win a sprint if everyone else had Stabilisers on their bikes 😄.

So here is my question. Liberty Seguros paid big bucks for Vinakurov. They probably pay big bucks to Heras. They have a bunch of good climbers. Why doesn't some team steal some of them.

People say the Bruneel should have signed Vinakurov. But Vinakurov still seems to be a little weak when it comes to the big climbs. My thought is that Bruneel should go after Alberto Contador. This guy beat Valverde in the only big climb of the Tour of Romanie and then he beat him in the time trial as well. He came in second to Cadel Evans based on a great Evans TT. But in a Grand Tour where there are many more big climbs, he would probably have the advantage. And the kid is 23 years old. I say open the check book Johan and sign him before his stock rises. I don't see any future TDF winners on the current DISCO squad unless Danielson or Savoldelli pull a big and unexpected surprise.
