I will be riding again in about 4 weeks. I am recovering from a shattered
    forearm and wrist.

A case of body hitting the concrete floor from riding indoors? How
about the carnage x-rays? Do't we get to see them?

Has anybody come across comparative injury rates on a participant-per-hour basis
    for various amateur sports?

My gut says that if you remove the fatalities, and separate 'mountain biking'
from 'riding a bike that was marketed with "MTB" in it's description'; actual
mountain biking outranks everything - even kitesurfing.

Yup you were and are right. The concrete is badddd. I am only going to dj
on actual dirt from now on. Ya I will get the x-rays and scan them. Sorry
I made that crack at you awhile back about being accident prone. I wound up
with 2 pins, 2 plates and 4 screws. The two pins are out and I am in PT. I
have to say that after a solid month of non stop serious pain 24/7 I am
finally out of the woods injury wise. I can tell that I will rehab back to
at least 90% if not 100%. Ray's is still cool and it still is filled with
great people and I will still ride there but I am not hitting the big jumps
anymore (DH riding with dirt jumps yes).

Ouch! That's a lot of metal you got in you now. Don't go near any
magnets. Why didn't they put gym mats around those jumps?

Can't wait to see the x-rays!

Well Ray is going to remodel in the summer and take care of that kind of
stuff. I wrecked because my left pant leg caught on mt left crank arm
forcing my foot off of the pedal just as i was hitting the lip of a 15'
table. I pushed the bike away in the air and prepared to hit the deck. I
did with the right side of my body. I wasn't prepared for the roll and
didn't get my left arm tucked in time. If I would have sensed I was going
into a roll I believe I could have not broken any bones. Oh well ;-)

Why remove the fatalities? That's where kitesurfing shines! =)

I went googling and, to my surprise, couldn't find much. Maybe I wasn't
using a good search phrase. But what I did find leads me to suspect
that studies won't be all that enlightening. I found a study showing
that women have a lot more injuries than men in certain activities, like
martial arts, especially in the first year or so. But they included
bruising as an injury and said that women would have as many as seven
injuries a year! Now, I never had anything close to seven injuries a
year from martial arts, even the first year, but I did get lots of
bruises. But any study that considers non-debilitating bruising to be
an "injury" worthy of study ... well, it makes me question the results.

I'm sure it's up there, but I would venture to say that MX would be much
    higher.

Is that wall paint color from a marine surplus catalog, or are you
    just nostalgic for prison?

I like the little gate in the doorway, to keep the bike from sneaking onto
    the wood floors at night.

How cool of you to break yourself there as well. I wish I could be as
cool as you are, hanging around and posin at such a cool place like an
indoor bmx park. Maybe you should get a mountain bike and ride in the
    mountains sometime.
