SRM DA vs New Power Tap?

I dig my PT Pro. Seems to do the job. The one downside is having to build it into the rear wheel. I hate that, actually, and might have (MIGHT HAVE) bought an SRM if I could turn back the clock. They sound like a bit of a pain, though.

I've seen the D/A SRM, and though I avoid all things Shimano, it does look pretty F-ing cool...

it depends on several factors. however, you could purchase a few Power Tap SL's for the price of an SRM Dura Ace. alternatively, you could purchase one SL and build it into a nice race wheel, and buy couple of PT Pro's built into training wheels and still have change compared to the DA.

This is still "theory" since I just put in the order at the LBS for the PowerTap SL today, but my coach suggested using the PowerTap for the early season races and other less important races to gather data, and switch to the lighter race wheels for the more important races. Incidentally, I very briefly considered the SRM, but its $2000 more expensive (for the least expensive SRM DA model), and I couldn't justify that difference.

With the riders i coach, i ask them to leave the power meter on for all races if possible. By not collecting data on your important races you miss your *best* data. Unless you happen to be racing a hill climb only, or have really un-aero rims on your PT then the additional mass of a PT won't make the slightest bit of difference to your performance.

What do you recommend for training wheels and racing wheels? I guess I'm going to go with a PT Pro for both instead of the SRM DA. Right now I train on Bontrager Areo's and race on Zipp 303's.

i'd do one of two things:
1) build a combo race/training wheel (e.g., a 30 - 40 mm semi deep/aero alu rim)
2) get one complete PT and a spare hub *only* (maybe a new SL hub), and using a Standard/Pro PT build it into a bog standard training rim (e.g., Open Pro). On the other hub maybe strip out the hub from your 303 and build it into that (or another Zipp rim). Then you'd have a great training and racing wheelset

I'm doing exactly as Ric has stated. I've already been using the PT Pro with an Open Pro rim for the last few months and will be pulling out my AC hub on my tubular Zipp 303's and putting in a PT Pro hub. I've thought about the SL for my Zipp wheels, but for the price of the SL hub ($1200) I can buy a PT Pro hub for around $550 and a new harness for $65. I can't see paying $1200 for a hub no matter how light it is.

I've been looking around and it seems that Analytical Cycling is the only place I've been able to find a 24 spoke hub only. Any other options out there?
