SRAM Powerlock

I haven't used them, but I have heard on RBT that the SRAM powerlock is
one-time use only.

The 9-speed ones OTOH you can keep opening and closing as many times as
you like and they last the life of the chain.

There is a Connex Wipperman link for 10s chains that's re-usable which
might be a better solution.

I believe so. I'm still using 9-speed so I haven't tried any of this
stuff.

Try searching the RBT archives for "Wipperman" and where the author is
"Qui si parla Campagnolo".

Yes, all 10 speed chain are 5.9 mm now (Shimano, SRAM and Campy Ultra
Narrow.

I've opened and re-used the ten speed powerlock many times.
There is a trick to opening it though.

I've used the Wipperman links for several years with 10s Campagnolo chains.
Never had a problem with them.

Yes, all 10 speed chain are 5.9 mm now (Shimano, SRAM and Campy Ultra

You might check out the IRD Snaplink, IMO better than the Wipperman.
The Snaplink is symmetrical - almost identical to the 9 speed SRAM
Powerlink, while the Connex is asymmetrical and won't work with an 11
tooth cog assuming you have one) if you install it upside down.

Why SRAM went with a non re-usable link for 10 speed is beyond me.
Same as why the Connex is asymmetrical.

I've got a 10 speed KMC chain with a reuseable link (simple plate and
clip). Works fine for me.

Seriously, why would I, who used their product for years on my 9 speed
road bike (and still do on my mtn bike) before I bought a road bike
with 10 speed, want to know why they didn't transfer the concept to
their 10 speed group? I don't care why. I simply liked their idea so
much, I now use a copy cat product that works on a 10 speed.

Superlinks. There are the old Craig design now being manufactured by
Forster. Unfortunately (for me) they're no longer available in 8-speed
and wider sizes, but are available in 9- and 10-speed widths. Check

The reason for this odd shape is that if the chain skips with a link
with a straight slot, the compression wave of the forward snap of the
chain as it enters the sprocket could cause the link to compress and
open. I had the misfortune of such a separation on a PowerLink when
my new chain skipped on an old sprocket. Because traffic was light, I
could find the parts of the link lying on the road undamaged and
reconnected the chain.
