SRAM chain 'tinkling'

Not Campag. Shimano Ultegra, and new jockey wheels. I'm certain it's the
chain.

No, they don't usually tinkle.

Is it rubbing anywhere? Against the other chainring?

Funny you say that, as I've noticed a unsmoothness (?) in my 10 speed
Record/Connexe chain set up..it seems to be coming from the jockeys.

I've just bought another bike that has 10 sped Veloce and that's as
smooth as a baby's bum.

My Record rear is only 12 months old, done 12'000k...should I look at
changing the jockeys do you think?

Just been cleaning my Sante one.. still smooth as a baby's bum (and about as
clean ;-() after 15 years and a lot more miles. Ceramic bearings in the
jockey wheels..

Do the jockey wheels themselves become sloppy? One of them has deliberate
float. Maybe you mean the main spring.

Jockey wheels take very little load and I don't see how they can cause any
roughness you can feel. Maybe some noise, though--I found Tacx jockeys
noisy because of tooth shape (shame as they're otherwise great, despite
lack of float). Campag jockeys last ages anyway (much longer than 12,000
km, or miles usually, I think).

Not against the chainring, as it only happens on the larger ring. I think
you might be right that the chain is brushing very slightly on the outside
of the derailleur cage as it leaves the tension pulley.
