they refused to let us bring our locks aboard as hand
luggage. They were thick cable locks, better sort, we never
used them on Mallorca but had them just in case. A guardia
civil stubbornly refused to let us bring them on the plane
insisting that they could be used as weapons, a really silly
idea, not least considering that we were allowed to bring
eight bottles of Rioja on board, all in glass bottles, easy
to break making nasty weapons to fight with.

Nevertheless, he would not budge, told us to either leave
the locks or go out and check them in. The flight was
leaving in twenty minutes but we figured they would not fly
without us (what explosives might be in unaccompanied
luggage?), so we ran out checked them in as luggage and ran
back, not fun at all.

Apparently, security is harshest in the US of all places
(they might x-ray your shoes, etc), they are very unlikely
to let you take a fork on board as cabin luggage. In any
case if you intend to do it I suggest you ask in advance. So
you don´t find yourself without one in Norway.

Yeah, I would definitely be concerned with trying to get a
fork in the cabin.

Yes, seems the time when we used to have the pedals, a pedal
wrench, allen keys, and other little odd but heavy bits, in
the cabin luggage is gone perhaps for ever. I think El Al,
US and Spain, are most paranoid, for good reason of course.

PIA is pretty bad too, stole all our camera batteries
in Karachi, kind of the armpit of the world, en route
to Bangkok.

This has always struck me as odd - they'll not only let you
take on bottles but actually serve you with wine in a glass
bottle. All that and they have to give you a Fisher Price
'My First Cutlery Set' to eat with...

Hmmm...

The only way I see that happening is completely dis-
assembling both bikes. lay the forks in the bottom first,
then the rear swing arms. Front triangles next. etc, etc. Or
buy an alloy smelting rig. Might be hard to put back
together though.
