I understand that there are two different types of tapers on square B/B spindles: ISO (Campy-specific) and JIS (standard). Is there any way to visually distinguish between the two or measure a B/B's spindle ends to determine which one it has? I bought my 'cross frameset used with a Phil B/B already installed and I need new cranks. So I'm trying to figure out what the B/B taper is in order to buy the right cranks for it.

I have to measure.I think Sheldon Brown has the specs in his stuff at www.harriscyclery.com......cranks need to match the spindle length too.
