Anybody ever use or heard of the supplement Sport Legs? It is supposed to break down lactic acid into energy.
I was curious to see if it works. The bike shop I go to gave me a few samples

Uh oh. You should do a search. To many in here it is evil. I have tried it, and I tried to offer my thoughts on it, but was called a troll. My guess is that you might be called similar since you only have 1 post and you are bringing up a supplement
In my mind, I think it works exactly as advertised. You still feel the burn onset, but it doesn't linger. No, it won't make you faster. No, it won't make you stronger. Well, at least it hasn't for me, but I didn't try it for either of those things.
Incidentally, since I started using it, I have also started picking a "zone" that I am comfortable with while climbing and I'm able to hold throughout the climb without feeling zonked. I'm able to recover quicker at the crest of the climb.
But this could all be purely psychological .. (sure the forum's supplement experts will chime in, if they don't blast you for not searching first).
I tried to search, but I kept getting a message telling me the server was busy. I had to go to work so I couldn't wait for it to get unbusy
Thanks for the review though 🙂
Boy, I am not sure of this. Lactic acid can be turned into NRG via gluconeogenesis by hepatic function. BUT, it is a slow process and not likely to help you much during training.
Ric Stern on this site would probably be a great source of info on this one.

I contacted sportlegs and aquired some free samples to try out after explaining I had not rode for a long period of time due to a serious surgical procedure; I knew I was going to hurt once back in the saddle. I only tried them out of curiosity and the forum on them that you contributed too. I agree with you 100%, they've worked as said and I had spoken to my doctor before trying them and they felt they were safe to take and they even called in there sports medicine people to get an opinion from them. Sportlegs only asked for one thing for the free samples and that was for an honest opinion of the product good or bad. My honest opinion, give them a try.
Yeah. It's not a magic pill. You will still bonk if you push beyond your limits. It speeds recovery once you ease up. I have no real way of verifying if it reduces lactic beyond the theoretical claims. It stops your body from producing *as much* lactic acid ..
Hey, we all look for an edge, even the Lances among us.
I love them. I feel like i can ride at 4 or 5 bpm harder with the same percieved exertion. so working at 180bpm and putting out that amount of power, but i feel like my hearts working at 175. Also recovery from extremely hard efforts is much quicker. I don't race without them, and use them for a lot of hard group rides. I figure if it allows me to work harder longer, i'll get stronger in the long run from it.
I've tried it a few times and felt good during those efforts but there is no way for me to know if it really works. The placebo effect can be powerful.

Its called 'The Placebo Effect'.
and that placebo effect works well for me, so for the 50 cents it costs me to take a few, i feel as if it is worth it. Placebo or no placebo this stuff allows me to ride harder and get better.
When I mentioned that Sportlegs may only have a placebo effect I wasn't being a smartass. The placebo effect is dramatic and well documented and if that is all that Sportlegs offers me then that's great. I'm going to continue to use it as well because I don't see how it can cause any harm and it may in fact have an ergogenic effect.

And that was precisely my rationalization. When I read about it, it never claimed to do anything extraordinary. it simply claims to lessen the onset of fatigue/burn from lactic acid (and I'm paraphrasing). I too believe in the placebo effect, but if it works .. ~* shrug *~
For someone like me, it's perfect. No racing, but i *try* and ride really hard, for long, when I do ride.
Park, i didn't take it to mean you being a smartass. I think we are both agreeing with each other.
