I don't know a whole lot about wheelbuilding and such, but I'm about to
drop off my new LM 24" rim to the wheelbuilder, who initially said he'd
do a "4-cross" spoke pattern, as he did on John Longs' '07 KH muni when
he had his LM laced to the KH hub.
The standard pattern on the KH Muni is a *3* cross, not a 4, so I'm
wondering if I should have the tech use the same 3 cross pattern. The
LM rim has a "staggered" spoke hole pattern, unlike the in-line hole
pattern of the KH, so I don't know if that would be a factor in
choosing a 4 or 3 cross pattern.
I called a few LBS's and they ALL said that a 4 cross is overkill, and
can actually over-stress the spokes, and that a 3 cross is far more
common and plenty strong. I'd appreciate your feedback if you have
experience in this area. thanks!
