Painful perinneum (or balls, or whatever you want to call it) is more about your fit on the bike and possibly your saddle than the bike itself. Choose the style of bike based on the kind of riding you want to do and then go about making it more comfortable with fitting and a saddle of your choice, not the bike manufacturer's.

Cheerio. Both bicycles you mention really are the cat's whiskers. If you're having pain in the ol' cods, try some cycling knickers. You'll find your packet much more comfortable.

Thanks for the replies! For tooling around the city as well as occasionally longer rides - 15-30 miles let's say - would a hybrid be an option? I just don't know if a road bikes speed/handling makes up for a lack of comfort/ease of use for me.

What are your opinions on the Fuji declaration and the single gear. Is the gear ratio basically in the middle that it makes the bike ridable up and down most hills?

I reckon your crown jewels should get accustomed to the bicycle rather quickly - and as I mentioned, cycling knickers should really help the ol' wedding tackle from being too rattled so to speak.

Nope. Something's not right with the seat or your position on the bike if your grollies hurt or if all of your tackle gets tingly or numb. For what it's worth, do be sure you're not sitting on the ol' wrinkly sack. That also causes hurt.

What kind of seat do you recommend? I don't know how I'm supposed to avoid sitting on the ol' ball and chain and ball. Maybe it's an endowment issue?

It's unlikely an endowment issue, except of course if you don't know how to position your bits so that they are out of the way. I can't recommend saddles because saddles are, IMHO, the bike bit that's most based on personal preference. You just have to try saddles until you find one that fits. It's the sad truth about saddle finding. Good bike shops worth having your money will allow you to trade in a saddle for another if a saddle doesn't work for you. Quite a number of bike shops have saddle test programs.

Remove your saddle and sit on your post. Just like Steve would have you do it.
