Specialized Allez Compact 2013?

not a fan of a compact anything. Nothing against specialized. Just like the tradiitonal gearing. Better speed.

Yeah, if the current year bikes are getting in short supply, a manufacturer will release the new ones a couple months early. It just doesn't work to start a replenishment run of the older bikes when tooling for the new ones is already in place.

Preference of gearing is one thing, but the same ratios can be achieved w/compact. I've got six seasons of racing that have included a 52/42, 53/39, 50/39, and a true compact at 50/34. Speed comes from the legs, not the gears.

Although I use standard cranks, I advocate compact gearing wholeheartedly for any rider who might be concerned about not having enough low end. 50/11 is virtually identical to 53/12, and if you think you need 53/11 then I recommend you try out for Mark Cavendish's leadout train.

And by the way, at this price point for several years the choice has been between compact an triple gearing, and the triples are disappearing fast.

Interestingly an interview w/Cav mentioned he often uses a 53/13, and sometimes a 53/14 if there is a slight uphill finish. Judging by his cadence he's certainly using something a little smaller than the likes of Thor or Andre.

I used to despise the inner gearing jump of the compact, but my recent aquisition of Campy Ultra-shift and it's available double dump action made that a non-issue. It certainly is nice running a tight ratio cassette AND having some bailout gears.

I've just ordered a compact chainset with my new bike, Campy Ultra shift too, and a 12-27 cassette. I looked at the ratio options with different cassetttes and chainrings and found that the compact (obviously) gives fewer overlapping gears. In fact for normal riding there are no useful overlapping gears, simply a nice range of gears on the smaller chain ring then move to the larger chainring for the higher gears. I think the usefule Ultrashift ferature Danfoz is reffering to, is that when you move from small to large rings or vice versa, you need to shift a few rings on the rear to move to the next useful gear. This makes life much easier.

I don't want to run out of gears up a steep hill and this combo using a 11 gear cassettte gives the best of both worlds.

Can you please share a picture, I havent been able to find any on the internet. What are the advantages from the 2012 allez model?....a local bikeshop is offering me 40% in all allez 2012 model, just wanted to know if should wait.

This is the 2013. If you got offered 40% off the 2012, take it. I love the look of both, but 40% is unreal.

Here is one of the color schemes for the 2013 Allez Sport Compact. I just ordered one. They are not on their web site yet. Still showing the 2012's. I think the other color scheme is silver and white.
