Speaking of Alfredo

One of my finest memories of NYC was doing an admission on a African man
(Pneumocystis carnii) who didn't speak English, but spoke Italian, via
an old Italian patient (lung cancer). I'm sure neither is alive now, but
it was a rather timeless scene of a low lit bed in a "ward" room where
other's slept, and a doc and a couple of diverse people tried to solve
one of life's problems together.

I'm still not sure why _northern_ Italy was so influential, but ...

Italy overran Somalia too, and until all the infrastructures in Somalia
collapsed the Italian university system had ties with Somalia. There were a
number of Somalians studying geology at the U of Florence when I was there
in the early 80s.

Somalia was also colonised in the nineteenth century by the British and
Italians. Many older Somalis still speak/read Italian.

LOL! You probably didn't learn about it in school the way I did. Plus
living in a neighbourhood with a huge Somali population helped somewhat
