I have a new pair of SH-SD60 sandals (GBP40 at chainreactioncycles.com). The accompanying data sheet says use pliers or similar to remove the rubber cover from the cleat mountings. Having used a knife to further cut around the removeable bit I am still not having any luck removing it and don't want to force it too hard in case I am doing something wrong. I suspect it /does/ just require more force but don't want to end up ripping the soles.

Anyone have any experience or tips to share?
As you've done, cut round with a sharp stanley knife and then use a screwdriver blade to lift a corner and either lever it off or grab with a pair of pliers and pull.

As you suspect, just brute force with a little application should see you through.
£40 is a very good price for these, well spotted!

All SPD soles take a lot of force to rip off the cover IME.
Help it along by going round the edge with a stanley knife then ease up a corner and rip hard with some pliers.

As above, and very nice price, too.
I have £30 of chain reaction vouchers I never gave to someone. Question is, do I get the sandals for my Dad who's envious of mine and also needs cheering up, or do I replace my pair which are a little worn after 4 years of use?

Get some for both of you of course! I wish I'd seen that price when I got mine a few months ago, they are super.

May well be the answer. Next question is why are all the £20 shoes size 40 when ane fule kno that they should be 41 so they fit me.

Same reason they're not 43, I think. Was all set to get a new pair of Rockhoppers when I noticed the size selection was a shade limited :-(
Still, think of the money I saved!
