I'll let Ride-a-lot do the Blog. We had a good ride/walk/hike starting from the east side of the park, heading west on the National trail to Telegraph Pass Trail (and people actually can ride this down, not me, no way, no how, I'm not stupid, little juevos, call it what you will, sissy boy...etc.) down to the Desert Classic Trail. It was hot.
GPS route, profile and a few pix of Ride-a-lot riding/walking/hiking. I think the profile backs me up on my preference to walk, not ride Telegraph Pass....

The only reason I didn't ride down Telegraph is that I just carried my bike up it and didn't want to repeat the process. . . Yeah...that's it!...that's the ticket.
It would've been more fun for you to turn around and ride back down Nationial.

Cool. That looks like fun! And 1200' over 6.5 Miles? Doesn't sound THAT bad, although I'm sure the technical nature made it seem bigger.

Very ridable and fun except that you dump out on Desert Classic.
Yes, I know several people that have claimed to ride it but haven't witnessed it. One even claims to ride it rigid. I don't doubt these people as I've seen them ride other things that I walk.
A man has to know his limitations....and I know mine. I'm always over the bars by the second step (if I make it that far......)

I think he's talking about the 800' in a little over a mile. I can't wait to ride it this winter.

A lot of the more poplar trails at South Mountain are somewhat a-technical, however there is some good technical if you wander away from the herd. My favorite so far is Geronimo (yeah, I'm naming names because it's a high traffic area). I didn't clean all of that Telegraph the first time I was riding it, but didn't crash and at least attempted everything. I think that the Cha is the right tool for the job on the better trails at SM and look forward to riding it there again. I'm planning a winter-sanity break trip to Geedub country sometime around Jan-Feb next year. We could do a Phoenix rendezvous, you could show us how to ride the waterfall, and if you're still able, ;~) we'll all raise a glass for the good times...
