  1. I have recently revived my love of cycling. Until about 4 months ago I had practically stopped. For the last 4 months I have gradually done more and more cycling, 20-60 mile rides. Apart from a general lack of fitness I felt physically fine doing these rides. However last Saturday I completed a 120 mile ride, which for me and my current level of fitness was a stretch. During the ride I noticed that the back of my ankles were starting to get sore. When I stopped cycling the pain stopped.

However last night I did a little in door work on my trainer and I felt the ache in the back of my ankle again. This does concern me as I was planning to do another long ride tomorrow but I am afraid I will do more damage to my ankles.

Does anyone have any adivice for me on this?

Stop riding and see a doctor , one who specialises in sports injuries . Any time something starts hurting that did´t before is trouble - sounds like tendenitis to me but it could be worse so check !
Do remember that some injuries need time and REST to heal so if that´s the diagnosis your going to be off your bike a while I´m afraid - believe me I know , I´m just coming back from a seperated hip and I can now do everything except ride and it´s driving me crazy .

Just a thought : could be micro tears in the tendons as they join the heel bone ( like tennis elbow ) caused by overstress - either way the cures likely to be the same : REST and TIME OFF the bike - weeks , maybe months I´m afraid . apply ice as for any injury but see the doc pronto . 🙁

    Elevate , immobilise , ice .

  5. Your ankles? Sounds like you'll need to stretch out your calves. It should hit the ankle area. This could happen if you haven't been biking that much. You kind of have to build yourself up to distance and time. You'll find muscles and spots on your body you didn't know you had if you do more than you are use to.

  6. Massage your ankles and soak them in hot water with Epsom Salt. Follow my advice and they should be ready for cycling by 2025.

  7. You need to check your blood sugar and salt levels. My father suffered from sore ankles regularly, but avoided having his vitals checked. After a couple of years, his situation only worsened and it turned out that his sugar levels were incredibly high.

  8. you have to REST!If you want ride bike again
