Well the other way to look at it is that he's been clean for the past few years and therefore mediocre against the dopers, but is now "re-emerging" as the peloton starts to clean up and comes back to earth.

As lim said he rode a strong Tirreno. Today he dominated the second stage of Coppi e Bartali. First he attacked out of a group of 25 and 11 riders could follow him (Evans, Garzelli and others). Than he attacked again out of the group of 12 and no-one was able to follow.

I think he's got his T/E ratio artificially managed at 3.9 as I'm speculating his natural production is zero atm. It would be interesting if UCI opened up their books on drug test results or the passport. That would explain why he is so strong.

I wouldn't be unhappy if someone slapped this hypothesis down with some contradictory fact though.

You don't need to take testosterone if only one ball is hacked off. The one remaining produces more than enough natural testosterone.
