He wasn't. He won a couple sprinter Tour stages and a crapload of crits
here in the US. That doesn't suck, but he wasn't one of the best men,
not even in shouting distance, not compared to his contemporaries,
Bernard Hinault, Sean Kelly, Laurent Fignon, Francesco Moser, Greg
Lemond.

What's your criteria? He could make more watts than her?

with speed skating and rowing. There are people here in Boulder who'll
argue that she was the best ever. People who don't even know who Beryl

This started out being about who was more memorable. She had more
talent, but he's much more memorable. Not just for all the wins, but
for the other stuff. Crashing through the back window of a support car
at LBL. TDF TTTs with 7-Eleven. Getting punched by Zanoli (?) during
the TDP sprint. I could come up with more.

I never said he was. I was just explaining why I thought of him before
I thought of her. It's because he had a more memorable career, IMO.
You're welcome to think otherwise. I was never really a big fan of
either of them. Nice to see the kid following in their footsteps.

A thin resume? A brief period?

From 1976-1984 she won everything there was to win
except for the period she was rowing. And she was rowing
because cycling was not yet an Olympic event for women
and rowing was.

My records on the Red Zinger/Coors Classic are
incomplete but she won that at least twice, in
1977 and 1981.

Davis has a crit championship in 1983 and a couple
of TTT jerseys from this period. And a bronze medal
in the 1984 Olympic TTT.

She had no place to go in the sport after the 1984
Olympics and he did. That's the difference.

how did people way back then even find out about this kind stuff, in
general? i'm being serious- i'm too unimaginative to think of how i
could find out race results (or even be aware of any race other than the
tdf) if i didn't have the internet. (magazines or cycling association
newsletters? word of mouth?)
