    Larry,

    Assuming you were tapped out on this interval...

    I would estimate an FTP of 245 - 250. This will at least get you closer than what you have now...

    This is, of course, a guess. My favorite way of estimating FTP is by using the Critical Power method.

  3. I rode this staying "loosely" within what I believe my HR amd Power numbers to be. I've been training under the assumption that my HR FT is around 148 and my Wattage around 180. I think the wattage number, for training purposes is low, so that is why I am asking. I wasn't really "tapped" until I hit the last 2 climbs, where I couldn't really drop the hammer the way I wanted to. This was my best time to date on this loop, by over 1 minute, but I think I can still be training smarter. At 158 lbs., (71.8 kg), to get to 4w/kg, I need to be at 287w.
    I'm 52 years old.

    Well, it appears that you were underestimating FT HR also...

    Honestly, I think we can all stand to take a step back and analyze what we are doing and why...

    You seem to be going in the right direction...

  5. Given PAvg = 224W & PNorm = 254W for 42 minutes, I'd say that 180W is too low for FTP.

    Assuming we're talking 60 min power here....

    If you had kept going - you would have had to ride the next 18 minutes at no more than 77 Watts to average 180 for the hour. I bet you could do better than that, say ride at 200W for another 18 min gives a PAvge of 217W for the hour.

    Do same maths using the higher PNorm and the numbers are higher again. I'd say you're closer to 220-230 for FTP.

    But all the caveats about specific variations on the day vs regular testing routine etc etc

  6. It is a very hilly course to FT test. I would say it should be somewhere between AP and NP for the TT.
