I got quite a chuckle out of your post Scott. If I

getting

I originally got it back in '99 so I could watch the Giro.
Enjoy the TdF Scott!

You could not pay me to look at that most god awful
bicycle race in the entire world.
Ed, from your posts I would guess you're overweight and
probably never get your heart rate even into the aerobic
zone on rides. Many of us aren't
and

I am slightly overweight now for the first time in my life.
I do like an aerobic training type of activity, but I never
see any point in pushing it to the limit either. If you do
that you may or may not live better and/or longer. I do
know that spending many hours in front of the TV looking at
the Tour de France never yet did anything for anyone's
aerobic training.

you obviously
don't
Quoted message said:"get" the concept of pushing oneself physically and
actually enjoying it.
RAAM is probably the limit of what we humans can do short of
killing ourselves. But you have got to admit that it is a
slightly crazy thing to be doing. I only like to push myself
so much. I think many of us would be better off if we pushed
ourselves more mentally and less physically, but that is
another subject. I must admit I do not ever particularly
enjoy getting the old physiology revved up unless it is the
brain cells that are firing away. Frankly, I do not see the
point. But I do not begrudge anyone who wants to burn a lot
of calories doing senseless things like bike races for
apparently nothing but a highly illusionary ego
gratification.
By the way, most animals other than the human animal do not
do the kind of stupid things (like bike races) that we do.
If they engage competitively with one another it is
invariably for the ultimate purpose of gaining access to the
female for reproduction purposes. I wonder if that also is
not what is motivating the Lance Armstrong's of the world
and those RAAM idiots? However, all that huffing and puffing
is wasted if that is your purpose as I can tell you from
vast experience that all women care about is how rich you
are. If you are also famous and powerful so much the better,
but the amount of money you have is what it is all about.
Physical prowess, intelligence, civilized manners, courage,
etc. - it is all for nothing as far as the human female is
concerned. So get that good job and earn some money. There
is no other way. Thus spake Zarathustra!
