  1. It's probably beyond my means at the moment, because I'm not yet "fully
employed" but I simply have to be able to watch Lance's attempt at number
six. I doubt that he'll be successful, because I think he's introduced a
number of distractions in his life that will sap his concentration, but if
anyone can do it the taciturn Texan can. My cable system doesn't offer OLN,
so I've resisted getting SAT-TV until now, especially since my cable is
really cheap (free actually), but OLN is really the *only* channel that I
absolutely *must have* so, there yah go.

I can't wait until the first TT. What a freakin orgy, huh?

OK, so it's not entirely rational. Sue me.

I got quite a chuckle out of your post Scott. If I hadn't read it with my
own eyes I would not have believed it. Imagine! Some one getting satellite
TV service so he can watch the Tour de France!

You could not pay me to look at that most god awful bicycle race in the
entire world. The fact that it takes place in France of course has a lot to
do with it, but I find all races and competitive sports events to be
incredibly boring. In fact, I gave up on all that sort of thinking in high
school when it occurred to me that it is crazy to care if Notre Dame wins or
loses its football games. Who gives a damn!

I presently have cable TV and there are more sports channels than you can
shake a finger at. I ask myself - who watches this [censored]? Well, I know I am
not the All-American boy (sports nut) and I thank my lucky stars that I am
not. My idea of Hell is to have to attend a sporting event. And if there is
anything more boring than a bicycle race like the Tour de France I would
like to know what it is. Even watching Notre Dame football was not that
    bad.

    What the heck is OLN?

Ed, from your posts I would guess you're overweight and probably never get
your heart rate even into the aerobic zone on rides. Many of us aren't and
    do.

BTW, RAAM is an awesome endeavor in human endurance. But you obviously don't
"get" the concept of pushing oneself physically and actually enjoying it.

I am slightly overweight now for the first time in my life. I do like an
aerobic training type of activity, but I never see any point in pushing it
to the limit either. If you do that you may or may not live better and/or
longer. I do know that spending many hours in front of the TV looking at the
Tour de France never yet did anything for anyone's aerobic training.

"get" the concept of pushing oneself physically and actually enjoying it.

RAAM is probably the limit of what we humans can do short of killing
ourselves. But you have got to admit that it is a slightly crazy thing to be
doing. I only like to push myself so much. I think many of us would be
better off if we pushed ourselves more mentally and less physically, but
that is another subject. I must admit I do not ever particularly enjoy
getting the old physiology revved up unless it is the brain cells that are
firing away. Frankly, I do not see the point. But I do not begrudge anyone
who wants to burn a lot of calories doing senseless things like bike races
for apparently nothing but a highly illusionary ego gratification.

By the way, most animals other than the human animal do not do the kind of
stupid things (like bike races) that we do. If they engage competitively
with one another it is invariably for the ultimate purpose of gaining access
to the female for reproduction purposes. I wonder if that also is not what
is motivating the Lance Armstrong's of the world and those RAAM idiots?
However, all that huffing and puffing is wasted if that is your purpose as I
can tell you from vast experience that all women care about is how rich you
are. If you are also famous and powerful so much the better, but the amount
of money you have is what it is all about. Physical prowess, intelligence,
civilized manners, courage, etc. - it is all for nothing as far as the human
female is concerned. So get that good job and earn some money. There is no
    other way. Thus spake Zarathustra!

That thought occurred to me too Tom, but I have a brother in law who watches
golf on TV for hours every weekend. There is now a golf channel on cable TV
that shows nothing but golf! However, bowling is equally boring and is one
of a hell lot more noisy. Folks who watch bowling on TV have got to have
rocks in their heads and no eardrums. But I think I have recently discovered
the ultimate all-time most boring activity ever to look at on TV - guys
playing poker. I guess this is more of a game than a sport, but what ever it
is, it is total insanity to look at other people gambling their brains away.

When I have a few hours to kill, I like to go to these weather cams on my
computer and look at the clouds in the sky. Failing that, I will go out into
the countryside here and look at the corn grow. Hells Bells! I would rather
do that than look at the damnable Tour de France! I hope the Tour de France
is a total disaster this year in keeping with all the rest of France's
disasters. Maybe the Muslim terrorists will see fit to strike at this heart
and soul of la belle France. Allah willing of course!

Everybody else here knows how I feel about France as the result of them
stabbing us in the back in the UN and not supporting our efforts in the War
on Terrorism (of which Iraq is central). If you are a France lover, then at
least know that there are some of us here who hate France for not standing
with us in defense of the values of Western civilization. No true blue red
blooded American would be caught dead in France, Tour or no Tour.

I always explain myself fully which is more than this despicable kill filer
Leuck ever does. Do you suppose he read my previous complete post from which
R42Pilot extracted a small part to respond to? Of course not. He is a kill
filer and only gets me in bits and pieces. Yet he feels free to comment on
me even though he is not reading me in full. I give you the typical liberal
idiot - Mark Leuck! Let us hope that he will soon be gone from here like
Cletus Lee and most of the other kill filers. They are simply not up to the
    rigors of ARBR.

    Ever the idiot top poster!

Poor Harv has got to read me in full to appreciate all the subtleties of my
thought and wisdom. But he is another one of these confounded kill filers
and so only reads me by way of what others have quoted in their responses.
Just another example of liberal idiocy. If he had read me in full he would
know that I had already mentioned the bowling on TV in a follow-up post, but
he is an ostrich and does not want to know anything except what echoes in
his own brainless mind. You have to have the patience of Job to put up with

Vaguely, but I do not see what he can have to do with the present situation.
Unless you are likening la belle France to [censored]'s Germany? As much as I
hate France, I don't think I would go that far. [censored]'s Germany was a real
threat to the peace and order of the world. France is far from that and is
relatively powerless compared to [censored]'s Germany. The only attitude we
Americans should have toward France is an attitude of contempt.

If I were Lance Armstrong I would boycott the Tour de France on the
principal that the US can have no truck with villainous regimes like the
present Chirac administration. My best advice to any American foolish enough
to go to France - do not turn your back on them as they will stab you in
that vicinity just for the hell of it! Perfidious Albion (England) has now
been replaced in my mind by the perfidious French. I have a long memory I
    will never forget their treachery!

So, if LA boycotts the Tour, who does he really hurt? France? No, the lack
of LA being there opens the door for one of their own, though no French
riders have been that much of a threat, of late. No, LA boycotting the Tour
    will only hurt LA.

I never thought the American way was to run away and hide from anything. I
don't agree with the "If I can't have my way, I won't play" attitude. I
agree that LA and company need to watch their backs while abroad, as does
anybody in any country these days. So what? Since when do Americans run
away and hide, just because we don't agree with a nations politics? That
was the point I was trying to make about Jesse Owens. He went to Germany
and right under [censored]'s very nose, displayed for all the world to see the
fighting American spirit. Despite the dangers of being in a hostile and
dangerous nation, Jesse Owens demonstrated that the Nazi Germans were not
    the superior race they thought.

Besides, there is more to life than politics.
