I commented a month or so ago that I hadn't fallen once this
winter. And it wasn't an easy winter either - lots of
adverse weather to contend with.
Well! Sunday morning, 21 March 2004, first day of spring,
Saturday's slushy mix of rain and snow had solidfied though
the roads were clear and dry. I'm coming home from the last
of a string of overtime night shifts, tired, so very tired.
I cross the lattice covered brisge and am travelling up an
unpaved laneway to rejoin the city street and WHAM!! What I
thought was a dusting of snow over frozen ground was
actually a dusting of snow over a sheet of ice. It's
amazing how fast a bike can fly out from under you in those
conditions.
All winter I stayed upright. Then the first day of
spring...
Oh well, sore butt and stiff neck aside I guess I can try
again next year.
