    "Yip, yip!" Leon whines.

"O mon cher! My cur!" I cry sympathetically. "What did they do to you?"

"It's a nasty, nasty thing," Leonardo explains, apparently in pain.
"But I'm going to feel much better now.

Timmy, I'm going for the 'quirky but still sane' constituency, not the
    'completely-off-my-trolley-on-god-knows-what-medication' voter. I shall
leave the (shockingly bad, but sometimes impressively good) poetry and
rhyming couplets to queen Virginiaz. I prefer my own domain and subjects.

    Why thank you, young Timmy.

And whilst we're on the subject of *you*, I'm not quite sure how to absorb
all the adventures you've had this year. One half of me applauds the ultras
and the genuine progress you've made in your running, the other half of me
far prefers the bumbling, but highly amusing, newbie you once were.

You can never go back, of course, so I'll just have to hope that some spark
of the old Timmy returns. Probably won't though. You're on the path to
Dougiedom - the seen-it-all-done-it-all, blasé and slightly jaded world
inhabited by those who have stuck with a sport a mite too long. Step off
the path now, while you still can. Give up racing. Run for fun.

Oh but I do, well mostly. I have to say that my heart isn't really going to
be in my XC race tomorrow. Standing round shivering in a field plowed into
a quagmire by preceeding races waiting for my turn isn't really my idea of
"fun" Now if there was a hilltop to be "bagged", a view to be enjoyed, that
would be different. (Did you see my Pentland Skyline pictures btw?). As
for giving up racing, well I have to say that within limits, I enjoy the
edge that racing adds to a run and I really don't think I would enjoy (or
even bother doing) some of the runs that I've done recently if they weren't
part of a race. Sure, if you can find a group of like minded runners to
join you a good non-competative run it can be a great experience but my
circle of running friends is too small to make this a common event. I do
have very fond memories of my run from Milngavie to Drymen and back last
January in the sleet and snow with a few clubmates however.

Looking forward to next year, I've just realised that by comitting myself to
the WHW on the 18th of June, there's a fairly high chance I won't be fit to
do the Lairig Ghru the following weekend. Having said that I'll do it I
feel more than a bit guilty about possibly pulling out. If at all possible
I'll be there but I ain't no Kate Jenkins (who regularly does the double).

    Timothy,
You really think I care enough to bother reading all that [censored]? You
know me, short n sweet or I get bored. Now run along and do your mama.

'course you do. Miss out on anything written about you? You'd sooner cut
your own throat. Perhaps I'll call you "Dibbler" (and reveal the kind of
    rubbish I read).

Do my mama? Dunno what passes for legal in Perthshire but I'm sure that's
    against the law in Ayrshire.
