Probably not when it's as bad as you describe. I have gone out when it's
been pretty smoky and have felt pretty rough afterwards.

I used to ride in Beijing in the winter. Some days the smog was so
thick that you could see no hint of a building on the other side of a
major road. I would get home and literally dig DIRT out of my eyes -
the washrag that I used on my face would look like I washed a car with
it.

Hasn't killed me (yet). ;-)

I get that from dusty days on the trail, especially if I'm in a
thundering herd. '02 was particularly dry and everyone was pulling mud
from their noses.
This year we've been getting lots of rain so it's not so bad.

Idaho's usually on fire this time of year, too. On a trip up the hill, we
actually got to watch one of our favorite trails on fire, Corral's, with the
hotshots teams working hard, flames still going, etc.

by the time we gained elevation, it was ok. But I'll usually go in the
opposite direction if it's smoky so as to avoid breathing all that smoke.
If I wanted to do that, I could take up smoking at $4 a pack!

Yup, lots-o-rain. I guess Montrose and Ridgway got hammered on
Tuesday. Lots of mud on CO 90 coming in from Moab (and I just drove
through, wimper wimper) on Wednesday. Rain at 6 am on Thursday morning
and a brisk 52F in the trailer. Hope the weather today holds through
tomorrow for the roof framing job!

We had flash flooding between Almont and CB. That almost never happens
here. It dumped a bunch of mud and big rocks on the road and they had to
close it for a few hours to clean it up. It messed up a bunch of wells
up Spring Creek Canyon (Doctor Park area) too.

The Jazz fest was wet, cold, and muddy and I had a blast. The
Anniversary went well and The Peaks was great. See the "A Great Decade"
thread for details, but she loves the gift I get her.
