Of course, the Japanese do not suffer from the "bigger is better"
syndrome to nearly the same extent as USians do, so they are not turned
off by the sensibly sized wheels.

this is a near 'gas pipe' (straight gauge, seamed tubing) frame. I
doubt it could be sold for much more than ~$500 in the US market,
except on a *very* small scale.

Sheeoot, my LBS sells those gas pipe Electra Amsterdams for $550--a
classic shaped touring bike fully equipped with vintage looking kit
would *easily* sell for $700. It's genuwine cromo, dontcha know!

Well, they could rebrand it as a Rivensthick (Blearyknot?), stick on
some 650Bs, crank up the gRant BS machine and sell 'em for $1200 a
shot, but only to a small group of suckers. ;-)
