Small emergency! NZ appetizers?

I thought I had GOOGLED for NZ recipes but perhaps I did not use the
right words.

Heh, that's true. 🙂

How about asparagus rolls? Get thin slices of white bread, cut the
crusts off and roll them with a rolling pin to make them even thinner.

Spread them lightly with mayonnaise and put a spear of canned asparagus
across one corner. Roll the bread around the asparagus.

(Note: I hate asparagus rolls but you couldn't _move_ in the '70s
without encountering one.)

Also, how about scones (plain), split, topped with raspberry jam and
whipped cream?

I am just thinking what I have been offered off late:
(these are unique items, not all together)

a beer
cheese board with sesame crackers
cheese board with rice crackers
a bowl of marinated mussels
potato chips with various dips (guacamole, tahine, hummus)
a glass of wine
a blank look

generic NZ cooking is not really BIG on appetizers in my personal experience.
(sometimes I cannot help thinking 'culinary wasteland'; yet not for want of
fine foods).

There is a huge difference between not really caring about appetisers
and being a "culinary wasteland".
