  1. I received my Eddy Merckx Corsa from Germany today and the frame sticker is
    as follows

    TUBI SPEZIALI SUPER BUTTED

    ACCIAIO CrMo CROMCYCLEX

    SLX NEW

    RINFORZI ELICIOIDALI

Any ideas as to what it is? Is this different than Std. SLX or just a new
    version or something else.?

Any info on the properties of SLX NEW? looking for what it is compared to
standard SLX or MX or any other Columbus tube set.

    Thanks

    Chuck Johnston

The "SLX New" tubeset has larger tube diameter at the maintubes than the
old "SLX" tubesets to increase stiffness.

The "SLX New" tubeset has larger tube diameter at the maintubes, at the
seatstays and a larger ovalized profile at the chainstays than the old
    "SLX" tubesets to increase stiffness.

The "SLX New" tubeset has larger tube diameter at the maintubes, at the
seatstays and a larger ovalized profile at the chainstays than the old
"SLX" tubesets to increase stiffness, this tubesets are used at the
"Corsa Extra" frames. The "MX" tubesets from the "MX Leader" are
different they have a bi-directional ovalized shape on the downtube
and the toptube, the "MX" tubeset use "Nivacrom" steel alloy instead
of "CroMo" for the frame and fork, this steel has a higher strengh
    than "CroMo" steel.

I did check the tubes last night and the main frame tubes are the same
diameter on both my 86 "SLX" Corsa and my 90's "SLX NEW" Corsa Extra. both
    are from Eddy.

The seat stays are about a .10" smaller in diameter on the SLX NEW than on
the older 86 SLX. The forks are also smaller in cross section than the older
    bike. approx .070" less.
I have not built the new frameset up yet so I have no ideas as to how they
    ride.

RE:My question on the properties I was looking for the mechanical
properties...IE yeild strength and similar info. Strength of materials. This
is a difficult subject to find info on.....SLX NEW.....no one can say???

    Thanks

Did you ever think of asking THEM? Ask the people who made the frame--if
anyone would know the answer, it would be them.
