... You'll be surprised how much faster you'll ride when
you aren't busy thinking about that creak!...

The most likely thing to creak on a V-Rex or other RANS
bike is the seat mesh rubbing against the seat frame.

if its a radloc they had some weaker metal problems
,check the seat hinge on the underneath, the piano hinge,
    for a crack

  2. While tire shopping at my semi LBS two weeks ago I made the
mistake of testing a strada...I guess you know the rest.
WOW! Fortunately I was able to exercise some restraint and
stay off of the aero. Thanks for all of the good
suggestions. -Jeff "now we're getting somewhere" Sarchin

I'm wondering if putting thracian wheels and stelvio tires
on my V-rex would improve my speed significantly or not be
worth the expense. I've had the bike for almost a year and
3000 miles and still feel slow. -Thanks

  3. I don't feel slow on my Rex. You say you feel slow...how
do you compare with DF's or other bents? What kind of
averages are you performing. I have had Greenspeeds, a
Rocket, bike E, all kinds of Dfs including a carbon fiber
bike. I just have to say that you will get most out of
    improving the motor.

A V'Rex can do about as well as anything else. (Not
    including hills in this statement)

That's sure the case with me. My V-Rex is a bit tubby --
38lbs by the time you add in XL frame, rack, mirrors, etc --
but my 13.5mph or so average is my fault, not the bike's.
I'd buy a new bike if I thought I could boost my average up
to 16-17mph but I doubt a new bike would fix the fact that I
don't do enough miles to make up for all the miles already
    on the engine. :-)

  5. 13.5 is a decent average --faster than mine Sunday (13.3).

The Force 5 may be a more appropiate replacement for my V-
Rex since I am a big guy.

It has a triangular frame that hopefully doesn't flex as
much as other 26x26 stick bikes.

Gary struck a chord with me due to a recent experience. Last
Saturday we picked up a used Windcheetah Club Sport for my
wife to ride. Sunday was her break-in ride (her main ride is
a bodysocked Gold Rush). While the sensation of speed is
greater with a trike, the actual speed is not (at least for
us). We did our normal city ride of about 25 miles. Because
she was learning we did the route slower than normal, me
trailing along on my Barcroft Virginia. That ride, without
the self-created "necessity" of pushing the limits to keep
the average up (my average isn't that great anyway but
everything is relative) was one of the best we had had for
awhile. A reminder that high averages (at least for me) has
its place but there is plenty of enjoyment to be had in
riding more leisurely. I think the V-Rex (assuming you don't
have a bad seat) is one of the few bikes which feels
comfortable and secure at slow speeds and is able to handle
higher speeds as well. I am faster on my Virginia (a bike
which is my all time favorite) but the V-Rex provides some
impressive results as well. Sometimes I need to just
remember to relax a little and enjoy the journey.
