    Slipstream get the nod from RCS and an invite to the Giro. According to the article below from cyclingnews.com they are going to bring an A team. With their T.T. talent a few days in the pink look likely. It will also be interesting to see what Lil Tommy D can do in the mountains now he is out of The Hog's clutches (and freee of his gut worm).

    Slipstream gets Giro invite
    The Slipstream/Chipotle presented by H3O professional cycling team has announced its invitation to contest the 91st edition of the Giro d'Italia. As indicated to Cyclingnews by team director Jonathan Vaughters at the 2008 Tour de France presentation in Paris last October, the Professional Continental team owned by Doug Ellis will be participating in the next Italian Grand Tour, scheduled from May 10-June 1.

    "We couldn't be more excited about the invitation. It demonstrates that [Giro organiser - ed.] RCS - a pillar of the sport - supports our team and has confidence in our young organisation. We will return the favour by bringing our best game to the event," commented Ellis.

    His sentiments were echoed by Vaughters, who said, "This invitation is an honour for us. Beyond showing that our efforts to create a solid programme are recognized on a Grand Tour scale, it is an outstanding opportunity for our team to showcase our talented roster and capable staff."

    This year's edition of the Giro includes 21 days of racing covering 3,423.8 kilometres from Palermo to Milan. Additionally, with it's four time trials, "the race provides Slipstream an excellent opportunity to display its powerful time trialling ability", according to the team. The opening day of the 'Corsa Rosa' is a 28.5 kilometre team time trial in Palermo. With riders such as David Millar, Dave Zabriskie, and Christian Vande Velde on the tentative roster, Slipstream will aim for a strong performance right from the start of the race. The team also named Julian Dean to participate in the event, focusing on the early mass sprint stages, as well as Tom Danielson to contest the mountain stages as well as General Classification.

    RCS Sport is expected to announce further wild card entries to the race in the next weeks.

    Interesting.

    Obviously with CONI looking at Puerto - this invitation gives Slipstream a boost in terms of their being accepted as being a "bona fide" clean team.

    Armstrong and Bruyneel will be spitting chips....... little know fact but doepy George Hincapie owns a part share of Slipstream.......... they had almost signed up until T-Mobile came in with a better offer.............. (of blood maybe ?)

    Yea, but not unexpected...in other news, even with the addition of Cipo (cyclingnews.comnews.php), Rock Racing will still not be invited contrary to Ball's beliefs.

    Tommy D is a hard character for people to get behind (whiny neo-yuppie coffee salesman - btw, how many episodes of diarrhea has that guy had?). Armstrong and Lemond had compelling personal stories which helped sell them. Americans seem to like those cheezy 'interest stories' that are played ad nauseam during events like the olympics, and seem unable to appreciate the sport or athlete for what they are. The exception to this is American (US) football where people like players with great fortitude and talent, and seem to ignore the personal lives. Just my 2 cents.

    Yeah...that "picked himself up from tragedy" story is like a cliche at the Olympics... and all the other sports have seemed to immitate it... except for football as you say. But maybe that's because football supporters would be like "So farkin what?" if they saw the hard-luck bio. Its expected that you had it tough in footy.

    That because the "life" of a pro footballer is a mid-80’s Duran Duran video clip: girls, yachts and cocaine.... not sure that’s the human interest story most Americans want to read ?

    Been a long time lurker here and on other cycling forums, first times posting here though.

    Seems like Slipstream has good intentions, we'll see how it works out. But cudos for them at least for trying (or pretending?) to clean up the sport..

    If you have lurked long enough, you must be aware that f words are often used without any attempt at moderation. That is why Cranky was saying that you would fit in with the group, and so IMO, there is no need for any explanations or apologies!
