  1. Hi -

Do you know, when you are slicing melons, like cateloupe, honeydew, and
pineapple how to slice them in thin pieces?

I have seen it presented in crescents that are about 1/2 inch thick, maybe
thinner. Is there a special knife you can buy that will do this? I have a
serated bread knife, but I think it would be difficult to slice a wide piece
    of fruit, so thinly.

    Thanks!

    Hi Joy,

We always slice the melons in half, first. Then slicing off thin crecents
    after that is easy.

    Does that help?

Since you want crescents, slice the pineapple/cantalope in half vertically,
remove core/seeds, lay flat and slice to whatever thickness you want. Easy !
There are many versions of serrated-edge knives on the market.

Pineapples are not melons... although I know this gal Melony Rose who is
blessed with a pair of pineapples would make Dole proud.

So how thin a slice are you talking, perhaps a job for the Deli Pro.

It isn't. Lose the serrated knife. It will make curved cuts because
serrations are stronger on one side of the blade.

You need a sharp knife large enough to go all the way across the fruit
with some blade to spare - if the melon is 5 inches across, an 8-inch
blade is about right. Cut the fruit from end to end, seed it and lay
it on your cutting board (*not* counter or glass or anything but wood
or plastic cutting board) and cut across as thick or thin as you want.

Should be no prob to cut thin slices if you have a sharp 8-10inch French
    knife.
Even easier if you slice in half and then cut off the rind. Good idea to
wash the exterior of cantaloupe before cutting through the rind.

If your knife is really sharp you can cut a honeydew melon as thin as you
like until it gets transparent and folds over no longer looking like a
slice. Pineapple is a coarser texture and even with the sharpest knife the
slice will tend to break up once it gets really thin, however 1/2 in thick
(or even less) should be fine.
