Skinsuit -- The Proper Fit?

I like my bike clothing tight. the important aspect, I believe, is fit in the crotch/thigh intersection. if loose there, friction can cause sores to pop up. but you don't want it so tight it cuts off circulation in the arms, etc. will the medium be comfortable for an hour long tt? are you above your fighting weight, and will loose some heft? what happens if you gain 3 pounds...how will it fit then?

I think I'd fit OK for an hour in the medium at +5 lbs. I might lose a little waist fat by season's end, but not a lot.

The crotch/leg intersection seems OK with both, but the leg grippers on the large are loose until I get the legs hiked up to where they tend to be when riding. The arms are tight with both med and large. Who designs this stuff??? I'm no Mr Olympia!

Fitting into a skinsuit takes luck, plain and simple, provided you don't have a lycra tailor on hand. I have trouble with Voler sizing in general -- luckily, the kit I just came into is Castelli Squadra, and their large is perfect for me.

What is your issue w/ Voler sizing? I wonder if we're similar and I should check out the Catelli.

Well, I'm slender and tall. Lrg Voler is generally too small, vertically speaking -- the snugness is right for my chest and arms, but a Voler skinsuit is too tight down to the crotch and a jersey by itself is too short. XL Voler is the perfect fit up and down, but is a little too baggy. Voler shorts in Lrg fit fine by themselves.

Castelli Lrg is the perfect size for me, in shorts, bibs, jerseys, and skinsuits.

Aha, I see. I find Assos a little short in length as well. Their sickly expensive bibs in size L fit fine around, but put a mighty upward yank on the crotch. And my knee warmers barely stay under the leg grippers because the legs on it are so short. But back to Voler, the length is fine with the M, definitely on the long side, but still OK, with L. It's the darn shoulder/arm tightness that's the problem. The ONLY downside with the L is that it wrinkles up just a bit around the waist (in back when standing, which doesn't matter) and in front when in the aero position. Well, that and the leg gripper is loose until I pull the leg up just a smidge to where it naturally ends up after a few mins of riding.

I'm thinking large is the one I should keep.

Hi - does anyone know where you can get a plasticised skinsuit? I saw one years ago on the cover of the US Cycling mag and they don't seem to be around any more

plastic skinsuits or it used to be called wet lycra arnt around anymore in the omset they thought they were more slippy in the wind but they arnt fun wen you come down. i wear wat ever skinsuits my sponsors give me usually a size to small shows everything :-)

Aren't those also really hot too? If they're rubberized, they'd have zero ability to wick away moisture. :eek:

I raced in the rubber suits yes they are very hot to wear.

Thanks for letting me know that. There is one place you can get them is Radical Speed Extreme sportswear, they are very bright and colourful, but I think I will stick to a normal skinsuit
