Yes I commute to work on my single fixed gear bike and love it 🙄 During the winter I don't have as much daylight hours to put in long miles. By ridding my fixed gear I get a good workout in shorter miles. One it makes you a stronger climber and going down hill increases my RPM.

I've yet to "officially" ride a SS, but since there are several of "those" (said with affection, sort of) types at work I have ridden a couple of easy (very easy) trails on my usual mtb and just didn't allow myself to change gears (middle ring in front-32 tooth) and about the middle on an XT 11-32 cassette. I already knew I was/am completely out of shape and didn't need a swift kick in the manhood to remind me! It is a cool challenge I am thinking of taking on though.
Kraig...

There's nothing quite so satisfying as racing against geared bikes on a singlespeed. I am not a super fast rider, but on a single speed you can really only go so slow on the climbs and still keep the pedals turning. So it forces you to ride fast on the climbs. It's easy to pass several riders on the climbs and it makes you feel like you're a pro. The problem is on the decents/flats where a geared bike that you left in the dust on the climb rockets past you as your legs are spinning out at 150 rpms. Oh well, there's always the next climb where you can pass him again!
Just like you mtnbikesuperstar, I feel like I should sell my geared bike out of neglect.

agreed - ss is a better workout for those of us who can't get 4 rides a week.
I have not yet raced on a ss though, although at my last race event, some friends of mine were riding ss and actually clocked better times than on their geared bikes.
You do get smoked on the flats and downhills, but the climbs you just can't let up. I have a fully dedicated ss with ebb running 32 -18 and it is nice. The two things I have not tried yet which everyone who is fully into ss has done are those 24-27 inch handlebars for more leverage and the 2.2-2.4 tires for better tractor.

I'm a big fan of the fat tires on a single speed. I'd also recommend using Stan's No Tubes in them. That way you can run the tires at Low pressure and not worry about pinch flatting. The fat tires and low air pressure help you keep traction while standing up climbing.

any of you guys know of any good super fat two-niner tires, im sick of running 2.0's on my single speed.

Where can I get a decent single speed crank for my bike? DO you know of any websites.
