Simoncini Bicycle

Simoncini was a relatively well known frame maker here in Italy. Columbus SLX tubing was the best of the best in its day, and it is difficult to go wrong with classic Campagnolo.

As to price I cannot help you, obviously!

Pete,thanks for the info and the link.i'm going to purchase it,said he would take $650.I plan to upgrade and use it for a training and touring bike here in the mountains of California.I just love Italian workmanship and this seems like a nice bike for the money.Almost tempted to leave it as is but at 60yrs.I prefer not to shift from the down tubes.Thanks again.mark

You are getting a peice of art, buddy! I rented one for a weeks tour in Italy in 1981 and it was perfect. I wish I could have brought it home with me. I'm sorry to hear that you are going to modernize it. I'm a sucker for restored or well maintained machinery in original condition. You can guess my feelings when I see a vintage auto ruined by a hotrod enthusiast🙁 .

Well I'll be picking the bike up tonight and am now having serious doubts about upgrading it.I agree with you and when I look at this piece of work I don't know how I can tear it apart. I think I'll wait until the spring to decide,after a few good rides I'm sure I'll want to leave well enough alone.Thanks for your imput.Mark

Within 2-3 rides you will not notice downtube shifting!

So, IMHO:

1. Buy it.
2. Post pictures of it as soon as you can!
3. Ride it, ride it, and then ride it some more. 😄

I have this forlorn hope that the UCI will add a kilo to the minimum bike weight, making materials unimportant; and high end bike makers will then compete on beauty and craftsmanship instead of the cheapest, lightest frame that can be manufactured in China.

Perhaps you should offer to sell it (at a profit to you of course) to all of the people here who are "oohing and ahing" over it.

Else go ahead and turn it into what you want. After all, you're the person riding it.

Hmmmm... seems there may some experts here regarding Simoncini. I'm looking at an uber clean example for sale locally. Can anyone tell me a bit about the (apparent) vintage of this bike? The owner says its from the 80s (and I have yet to measure the rear spacing), but I somehow doubt it based on a few factors, not the least of which is the Athena group w/ergo controls; I suspect it's mid-90s and it, too, is an SLX frameset.

I was given this bike a simoncini as a gift and want to restore, how to i go about finding a bike shop that can help me with my gift?
