I'm looking at buying the Simano XT FD-M761 down swing front derailleur to fix a clearance problem I am having but would like some info before I order one. When the derailleur is on the smallest chain ring, how much clearance is there between the inside of the derailleur and the seat tube? The top swing Deore derailleur I have now hits the frame and doesn't travel all the way in.
The second thing I am wondering about it how high the clamp will be on the seat tube and whether it will get the way of the water bottle mounting screws. If anyone who owns this derailleur can comment, I would certainly appreciate it.

It all depends on the frame you have. I have no clearance problem whatsoever but I can not use the waterbottle mounts on the seattube without any studs. It isn't a problem for me (Camelbak if I what to carry a lot of water which is almost never). This is my setup:

Awesome. Thanks for the pic Lou. Tell me one more thing if you will - on your setup, how far is the bottom of the derailleur clamp from the bottom bracket tube?

From the center of the BB tube to the bottom of the clamp is about 130 mm with a 44T big ring in front.
