rooman said:we are now in a new age of Incitement to Commit a Felony...daily perpetrated by the media...Channel 7 and now the Age in this last week have slunk to their lowest ebb in a while...but I'm sure it could go lower.....
today I spoke personally with the victim of the Beach Road assault , she was riding along with friends and her attacker a 40 year old male stepped from the kerb shouting "bloody cyclists" grabbed her and pushed her from her bike onto the roadway, she fell on her head into the path of other traffic ( which missed her) and the rider behind catapaulted over her...they both survived luckily, went to hospital and have very nasty injuries...
an hour later the attacker was caught by Police and has been charged on two counts, including endangering human life.
Would this have occurred if our media had been more responsible in recent days...?
who knows...but it is a real concern...we should all be concerned, for ourselves, our children our families...maybe its time for a mass protest of all riders from all persuasions to gather and demand a fair go on the roads, in the media and for our riding safety.
We are taxpayers, we are citizens, we are Australians....we have the right to ride , we have the right to be respected as human beings, as living creatures and as lawful traffic, not as victims of abuse and arrogance by the media, and those it incites....
* end of rant*
I actually dont understand all this going on now, how far away is the commonwealth games ??? What happens when we have international athletes rocking up and doing training rides a month or something before the races ???
I can just see the headlines now....
"<Insert Country> cyclist attacked by pedestrian while on training ride."
"Four wheel drive vehicle runs down entire cycling team from <insert country>, because driver says 'They were holding me up while I was talking on my mobile phone to my accountant as I had some inside information and then I had to get down to St Kilda to get a pick me up. Whats the problem I thought we were allowed to run them down because they are causing mayhem on our streets and they were riding in a group so they were easier to hit, thats what I saw on the news anyway.' Amy who ?? never heard of her. No im ok, Ive only 2 beers anyway im a lawyer and I have friends in the force, that will be alright wont it ??"
a large protest on bikes getting exposure which does not make things worst by stopping peak hour traffic, that would be a great idea, outside the Channel 7, Age, Herald sun buildings, surely there be cyclists who work with these media companies!!????
anyway I'll be out again tomorrow morning, stopping at red lights, holding my line, hoping to spread some good cheer, *fingers crossed*
