  1. I just bought a cast iron chicken frying skillet and lid and also a 5
quart Dutch oven/lid, also cast iron. I ma new to cast iron cooking.
Is there something I should do prior to using it the first time to
    protect/seal or whatever to it?

    Thanks,

Use them... just hang em from the giant pot rack and have a few
brewskis while you dream about cooking.

Just depends. A lot of cast iron sold nowadays is seasoned at the
factory and no special care is needed prior to cooking with it. The
"care instructions" included with the cast iron should specify. Enjoy

It's helpful, but not 100% necessary.
    It will season with use.

I'd fry bacon the first time just to get it started. :-)

I like oregano and a few anchovies with my cast iron.

Maybe you should search google for a seasoning recipe or two for your new
    pans.
