  1. I have several dozen disposable plastic shot glasses. I need to bring
snacks to a faculty meeting at school in a few weeks. Shot glass
snacks would be fun. Sadly, actual shots are not allowed. The snacks
need to be good either chilled or at room temperature. Chilled soup?
Something else? I have about a quart of strawberries in the freezer,
so I am thinking of a strawberry soup.

I'd love any ideas or recipes.

As much as I love soup, I wouldn't consider it a "snack". What sort of
things do people usually bring? The first thing I pictured was something
like chex mix but maybe the meeting calls for something a little more, uh,
    formal?

Oh, no, the spread is very informal -- cheese, crackers, cookies,
brownies, pimento cheese sandwiches, chips, dips, crudite, pretzels.
Chex mix is usually on the menu, but we just help ourself with our
fingers as far as that goes. But -- we all like to eat and I'm trying
to have some fun and come up with something different with my shot
    glasses.

My other option -- I also have several dozen frilly cocktail
toothpicks. If I can't come up with some shot glass snacks, I'm going
to make pasta salad skewers -- cheese tortellini, grape tomatoes,
olives -- marinate it all in Italian dressing and serve on fancy
    shmancy frilly toothpicks.

In case anyone is wondering from whence cometh all this plastic
largess -- my packrat mother-in-law has had this all packed away since
our 1999 wedding. I thought we had tossed it all at the site of the
wedding, but no! She is slowly cleaning out our home and gifting us
with everything she finds. I'm trying to have fun with it. If I
can't feed my school with the shot glasses, they will be used as paint
    cups for my primary grades.

You can't do Jell-O shots, but how about actual Jell-O? 🙂 Got a fridge you
could store it in until meeting time?

or how about filling the shot glasses with hummus, and a skrinch of
pepper, a tiny drizzle of evoo and a couple tiny sliced ribbons of
fresh basil on top? you could have a separate larger plate with pita
triangles or veggies for the dipping and scooping. myraide

Little shrimp cocktails. 2-3 shrimp per glass, with some sauce
    inside.

Little red fez's (pepper jelly) on top of a spread of hummus, tabuli, etc. with some naan
    to dip into all?

    Lots of possibilities.

    - guacamole with a couple of peeled shrimp on top
    - cream cheese mixed with whatever you like (walnut, chives, blue
cheese - the possibilities are endless), topped with a small piece of
raw veggie, or half a walnut, or...
    - shrimp cocktail - either the classical recipe, or the mexican one
    - tarama and a small piece of lox, on a layer of cream cheese
    - Eggplant caviar, on a layer of finely chopped tomatoes and onions
    - Hummus, with some fried bacon slices crumbled on it
    - Ham mousse, with a couple of celery slivers on it
    - small melon balls with a sprinkling of Port wine and prosciutto bits
    on them
    - asparagus mousse with a small asparagus tip and scales of Parmesan
    - Artichoke mousse with scales of Parmesan

One of the most popular things we ever had at our department meeting was
when a friend and I made chilled gazpacho. Funny, we both used the same
recipe but she used the food processor to chop everything and I used a
knife because I like the texture better. We set big glass bowls of the
soup in a bed of ice and used those airline-type drink glasses for serving.

Your shot glasses may be too small to serve something like that, but I
will post the recipe under its own header.

If you are talking about a shot glass like you drink whiskey out of.. I am
surprised ANY school ANY where would put up too long with a group of
faculty members standing around playing like they are taking shots. OMG

So you're suggesting that just the mere act of using small
plastic cups to serve food is promoting underage drinking?

    Interesting theory.

If I had the time or patience, I would make little rainbow jello cups
    along the pattern seen here:

    http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?s=6f07321c918fd140b467691b99ed02c4&showtopic=81699&st=0&p=1108065&#entry1108065

I don't even like jello, but that is just too cute. I'll have to do
    it one of these days.

    Tara

  14. My first thought was gazpacho. Could one make gazpacho jello shots? I
want you to put some gelatin in the usual
tomato/cucumber/cilantro/chile/lime mix and let us know how it works.

Jell-O shots. Without the alcohol if you must.

Sorry to say, but unless they're awfully large shot glasses, I think the
    whole concept is rather silly.

Oh no, on the contrary. I have non-disposable shot glasses and I often
"do" appetizers in them, you can serve loads of lovely things (see
list I have given in another posting) and people are usually
delighted. Of course I serve several shot glasses per person, each one
with a different mixture in it.

Perhaps so, Nathalie. The idea just isn't very appealing to me.
