  1. I'm sitting here in Aurora, Illinois, USA, wondering if the police
ever apprehended the guy who short-stopped the training ride resulting
    in multiple injuries.

  2. Yes, he was later apprehended. He apparently claimed his car was running on
LPG fuel (liquid petroleum gas) and it ran out, so he "had to stop" to
change it over and run on petrol !!

He also rang in to a radio talkback show making all sorts of dumb statements
and arguing with one of the road racing stars involved in the crash.

Good ol' Jason, he's such a pearler! But Ben Kersten has an interesting
viewpoint on his claims of innocence.

Has anything come of this since?
As far as I know, he was only charged for failing to stop after an accident.

In addition, I would have guessed, that had he been someone of a more
'normal' state of mind, he would be publically questioning the installers or
retailers of the LPG kit for the "failure". Lack thereof appears to lean
towards he knew full well what was going on, and there was very probably
nothing wrong with his kit, and the sudden stop was wholly a direct result of
    his foot against the brake.

Also a very noticeable absence of any police testing of his vehicle.
Did they not care, not have any legal requirement to check, or were they
interrupted on their doughnut run thus not inclined to do the paperwork?

Was some one injured? as in being taken away by ambulance?, if not,
    police not interested, or
Did a vehicle require towing, if not, police not interested.
It them comes to participants claiming dmages from their insurance
companies, who them settle who pays what.

If directly involved parties want to take civil action, then injured
parties can launch a civil claim against each other for what
is basically sharing of direct dollar damages in the proportion as decided
    by the courts.

The claim progresses by each party submtting documents to the
judge/magistrate at a hearing, with opportunity for verbal statement, then
returning to hear the judge/magistrates decision.

That is how I uderstand it works.

    Aka, the almighty dollar rules.

Be patient, it's only been a couple of weeks. Charges laid, then police
complete their inquiries. Some weeks/months later the case is heard,
probably only at mgidtrates court level.

He may choose to do this, but not likely to be in the public domain. It is
entirely a private complaint/warranty IF he bothers to do anything.

Do you really think that any such testing will be made public, before a
court hearing? That's not how our legal system works. The trial is the place
for any such findings to be revealed.

What you said is disgusting. It's also quite true.

Hope the journos or WOJ or cycling magazines etc are following the court
case and report what happens. If it is a magistrates court there is no
transcript of the court case AFAIK, so hard to find out what went on. It
would be good if there was a search you could do on these sort of incidents
between motorists and cylists and the outcomes. I think the Coluzzi ride
still goes on, despite all the calls for banning cyclists at 630 am during
    "peak hour".
