Porky Boy is just about spot-on. I am 50 yrs. old, 172 lbs, 6 ft. tall, etc. and computed I would have to average 295w for a 40k TT to break 1 hour. That's based on my 20k TT power files. And, that's with a road bike with clip-on aero bars, flat course, no wind, good aero position, no special wheels, etc. If you have a TT bike, tear drop helmet, Zipp 404s, skinsuit, etc. I bet you could get away with averaging as low as 280w to break the 1 hour mark. Who said you couldn't BUY watts? Good luck. Rob

From what I've heard, lots of people (even at your size) break 1hr at more like 250-260w, but that's with all the best equipment. -

I don't doubt it.

I was kind of hoping I could sneak in under an hour at about 285 watts. I guess I'll just have to wait until this coming summer to know for sure.
And you may well do just that, as I said "if all the above, and other, factors are optimised, warm day, superb aero position, great kit, lovely flat road, great mood, you may well get away with a significantly lower FTP than 300W" 🙂
Cheers,
PB
