shops in Seattle area

You'll want the Aurora Store.

I know that the Bike tech on South Tacoma Way in Tacoma has a few
recumbents. Not sure how they feel about test rides though.

There is also Old Town Cyclery in Gig Harbor and Tacoma. at

once again, I don't know how they feel about test rides.

There is one other shop I know of but it's on the other side of the
Cascades.

I don't konw if any of these shops have a tadpole in stock.

Alas A@B, in my own hunt for a recumbent bike, I did a lot of hunting
up here. The first shop I found was Gregg's up in Seattle. I ended
up buying my recumbent there. The issue is the same one that I heard
from every shop owner I talked to. "Recumbents are too expensive to
keep in stock but we'll gladly order you one. Please make your
selection then pre-pay."

In regards to test rides, I found Coventry Cycle Works in Portland, OR,
to be a good shop. They carry a nice variety of recumbents, and were
willing to let me take anything in stock for a test ride. It's been
several years since I dealt with them, so I don't know if their policy
has changed. Their web site (http://www.coventrycycle.com/) says they
carry Cat Trikes, but I don't know if they keep any in stock.

I haven't been to Angle Lake in a long time, but historically they
have been the primary local retailer for recumbents. Down south,
near the airport.

Yes, Angle Lake Cyclery is the place. Last time I was there Dale had
an X5 and an EZ-Tadpole, the time before that he had a GT3 instead of
the X5. Dale has an excellent testride policy, and is quite
knowledgable about 'bents in general.

Your best bet is to use Google Local and look up "recumbent bicycles" and
"Seattle, WA", works for me

I'd also suggest you consider going north of the border to buy a bike.
Take the Clipper over to Victoria and go to Fairfield Bikes. They have
a decent selection there and they'll let you ride any bike there as
much as you want. Paying CAD dollars might give you a decent price to
make up for the boat ride. You could also go from Pt. Angeles on the
Coho. That is a cheaper ride and you can bring a car on that boat.

You bet, go to Angle Lake and get ripped off big time. They will take a
$1000. bike and do some minor twiddling and then sell it to you for $2000.
Maybe Angle Lake should go into bike manufacture themselves if they are so
damn sure they can improve on the original manufacturer. I hate shops like
Angle Lake. They are nothing but thieves. They cater to cyclists too stupid
to think for themselves.

By the way, the shops in Omaha are in the mainstream and that is something
you should take into account when you go shopping for a recumbent. Do your
own homework and you will get excellent service there as you will any place
else in the country. Do not do your homework and you will get ripped off by
shops like Angle Cyclery.

I have been in the Fairfield shop as well, and although I did not buy
any bikes from them, they did price one out for me and it did feel
like a decent price. (having done some homework before walking in, I
knew what I was looking at)
