Shipping bike overseas

Yeah mate I have and it's effin scary getting bikes back, unless you
bring it with you. I'm talking $300USD plus. Do some searching in this
newsgroup and you'll find the full story. The best price I can find is
through www.myus.com and you are still talking around $250 USD.

Yeah.... I think while you are in the US is ok, but getting overseas and back via Fedex or UPS, get your cheque book ready, literally. I got a frame in Canada and they shipped it to Boston where I met the frame to take back myself, just lucky it coincided with a trip I was doing, but I looked at getting shipping to Australia and they were going to use Fedex, I just laughed and said I will work something out.

Even after the horrendous postage, a very good deal might still be
worth it.

Problem these days is that the airlines have started to charge bike
carriage. I understand that QF is still free but you won't be so lucky
with its partner AA. UA probably has a similar policy as AA these days
but you need to check.

So if the OP is going with QF, then the cheap option would be to take it
on the transpac sector and then do domestic shipping post arrival.

I went to the states QF/AA and I did not have to pay anything with AA when I was over there last year, however, I did cross my fingers everytime hoping my luggage would turn up, 4 stops and my luggage was lost twice!

For what it will cost you to ship a bike there and back - $600 or so - you
could buy a medium quality bike over there and either leave it there for
your next trip or sell it when you leave...

I read not too long ago on one of the US cycling sites that AA has
changed their policy along with a bunch of complaints.
